“ Tried Crown Seafood a second time and I think I may have been underselling it a bit! I definitely enjoyed the food much more this time! ”
“ Plenty of dim sum to choose from in Houston especially off Bellaire. What I like about this restaurant, you order off a menu with a paper and pencil. If those that know what they want and they want it quick, it saves alot of time and space from the traditional push carts. The food is very high quality, home made, fresh ingredients. The seafood is amazing, tender clam meat and the easier to eat crab. Most readers already know the traditional dishes so I won't explain the texture, taste because it's all what I expect, good quality dim sum. All the dishes I had were tasty. I really love the shrimp and beef roll, it wasn't too overly oily which I love and it was firm the roll itself. Great experience. ”
“ Came here on a Saturday for a late dim sum brunch. We were seated immediately upon arrival. The dining room is very large and so can accommodate a great number of people. We opted for 2 different kinds of shumai, fried shrimp dumplings, another fried shrimp dish, lava buns, and Chinese broccoli. It was a good amount of food for 2, and we had some leftovers too. I particularly enjoyed the shumai but thought the fried items were a bit weaker than at other dim sum spots. They provide you with soy sauce and chili oil, however, I with there was also ginger and vinegar. Service is fast. Parking is plentiful in the lot out front. ”
“ Came out to Crown Seafood for a saturday brunch with a friend right at opening time, and there were already people seated! Entering in, the large dining room is nicely decorated and within an hour, the place was packed with a wait so come early or be prepared if you're coming on a weekend. Because it was just me and my friend, we didn't order too much but some highlights would be the shu mai and the baked bbq pork buns! The soup dumpling had a thicker wrapper than I would've liked so I would actually recommend trying the other dumplings. Also, we ordered shrimp har gow which never came but was added to my bill. They were kind when I asked them about the mistake and luckily we didn't order too much so it was an easy fix. Overall, not a bad dim sum spot and is definitely one of the more well known ones in Houston. Just a warning, no dim sum carts here for the most part! ”
“ Soooo much foooooddd.. this place has a million options on their menu. Portion sizes are large for a great price! Ample parking. Definitely Chinatown vibes so pretty casual. Don't skip the walnut shrimp! ”
“ Came here on Sunday afternoon and the restaurant was packed. Clearly a very popular spot! There was a 20 minute wait. Large open space with many round tables, including large round banquet tables with lazy Susan. The menu is completely translated into English and there is a picture menu as well. The staff was VERY busy. Hard to get anyone's attention after ordering. This is the only reason I docked a star. The food came out quickly and it was excellent. I was happy with the number of seafood options. Not a lot of fresh vegetable dishes. I would definitely come back here again. ”
“ TL;DR: This is my new top dimsum place in Houston. I don't often get a dimsum craving, but it hits at least once a year. Now that I've found this place, maybe I'd come more often. After about a 20 minute wait on Memorial Day wknd Sunday at noon, we sat far in the back of the restaurant. This apparently is the cheat key to getting the freshest food possible, right as the dishes come rolling out of the kitchen. The service is prompt, as employees power walk with carts toward faces lighting up and necks craning to see which delicacies are joining them next - more celebrated than the models on runways at NYFW and surely with more step counts to boot. The table arrangements themselves create runways of sorts for the carts to roll through, and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant is bright, uncluttered, and clean despite its size and the number of patrons that come through. We got and would get again: - Steamed shrimp xiumai 5/5 - Deep fried taro puff 4.75/5 - Sticky rice with meat in lotus leaf 4.5/5 - Steamed mushroom chicken bun 4.5/5 Would not get again: - Steamed rice noodle with beef brisket 2/5 - Steamed mini bun (xiaolongbao) 1/5 - Oolong tea at $1.50/person - will get jasmine instead, because - what was I thinking. I think changfen (steamed rice noodle) may not be a strong suit of this place. I'll try another changfen dish before sticking with that sentiment. And instead would try: - Stuffed tofu - Fried turnip cake - Fried tofu skin - Maybe the fried crab claws The steamed buns were soft, the fried taro puff was crispy, and everything (even the reheated or previously-frozen stuff like beef belly/brisket or sticky rice) was served hot. We'll be back. ”
“ I was coming back into town from a weekend to the beach with family deciding where to eat? Ultimately we decided to go with Dim Sum and chosen to visit Crown Seafood Restaurant. Believe it or not, I am aware where the location is but have never ate there but around the area both in the plaza and across the street. We were fortunate to come in when the weekend rush for dim sum was slowing down. Walking into the restaurant, the dinning area is large, wide, many tables with seating. My family did the ordering and picked items like the taro puffs, siu mai, beef tripe, sticky rice, beef rice rolls, and especially the chicken feet. The food was good as well. I have not come across a bad dim sum restaurant in Houston. Crown does have a nice condensed menu for dim sum but also a full menu. The service was fast and attentive. It did not take very long for most of the food to arrive at the table. But I know the staff are constantly busy and moving. And I did appreciate the importance of cleanliness especially from the food runners by wearing gloves. Overall I wished I had eaten at Crown seafood all these years. But Houston's Chinatown is abundant of many restaurants especially Chinese cuisine. I would have given the experience a 4.5 out of 5 because of the 2 orders of shrimp Siu Mai were overlooked and were brought towards the end when we were about to pay the bill. Also the restroom temperature was freezing cold. Otherwise no major concerns so I give it the benefit of the doubt. Sure I would like to come back. Very appropriate for family and large groups. ”
“ We came here around noon on a weekend and that was a mistake. It opened at 10:30 am and it was packed. I guess if you want to have minimal waiting then try to get there when it opens. After we got seated, we looked at the menus and placed our order. It didn't take long for us to start receiving food and we ordered a lot. Everything is bigger in Texas is a true statement. The portions were a lot bigger than the ones back in Chicago. The menu had a vast selection. Prices were reasonable for the size of the food. Ample parking available. -sauteed mussels - 5 -Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce - 5 -seafood congee - 5 -egg tart - 5 -baked bbq pork puff - 4 -pan fried turnip cake - 5 -pan fried taro cake - 5 -deep fried shrimp and pork puff - 5 -steamed shrimp and pork dumpling (siu mai) - 5 -steamed rice noodle with shrimp - 5 -chicken feet - 3 -steamed shrimp xiu mai - 5 -steamed rice noodle with beef brisket - 5 -steamed mushroom and chicken bun - 5 -steamed rice noodle with beef - 5 -pan fried potsticker - 5 -steamed rice noodle with bbq pork - 5 -pan fried stuffed bell pepper - 5 -imitation shark fin dumplings - 3 - didn't taste like anything special -deep fried crab claw - 5 -steamed shrimp dumpling - 5 -bean curd pork roll - 5 -steamed sesame cream bun - 5 -steamed egg yolk cream bun - 5 ”
